It turns out writing The End is easier than you think.

Tell Dream. Write. Pub. the word count of your manuscript, when it's due, and it works out how much you need to write every single day — then keeps working it out as you go.

Your book, your plan. The app can run the calculation every morning, so a slow week adjusts the days ahead instead of derailing your whole plan, or keep your word count fixed. You decide.

Why it helps

Ninety thousand words is not a plan, it's a goal.

It's a number big enough to make you dread starting. What you need is the other number, the one that says today all you have to do is write twelve hundred words, and twelve hundred words is two sprints, and two sprints is fifty minutes you can find somewhere in your day.

Most of us do that math once on the back of an envelope, then fly by the seat of our pants. Dream. Write. Pub. does it properly, and does it again whenever you need it, so you always know where you stand rather than suspecting.

01

A daily target that keeps up with you

Set your goals YOUR way. You have three options for your daily word counts:

  • Recalculate only if I fall behind.
  • Recalculate every day, up or down.
  • Never recalculate.
02

Sprints and minutes, not just word counts

Instead of an arbitrary word count goal, your day arrives as two sprints and about fifty minutes, which is something you can picture and fit between the school run and dinner.

03

Type your running total

Read the total word count off your writing software, type it in, and the app works out what the sprint was worth. There is no second number to keep track of, no mental math between sprints, or pulling out a calculator when you should be in the story.

04

A timer that runs the sprint

Set the length, start it, and write until it sounds. When the sprint ends the cursor is already waiting in the next box for your new total.

05

More than one book at a time

Track several manuscripts side by side, each with its own deadline and its own pace, and see what you've written across all of them.

06

Encouragement

The app notices when you finish a day, pass a milestone, or do more than you expected of yourself, and it says so. If you would rather it didn't, there is a switch for that too.

What it looks like

This is what's waiting for you inside the app...

Today's number, a timer to run the sprint, your history in full, and a milestone celebration.

Today's target: 1,500 words, two sprints of twenty minutes, with words to go and days left alongside.
Keeping you on track. The deadline and the manuscript estimated word count go in once. After that, every morning arrives as a number of words, a number of sprints, and the minutes they should take — right next to how far along the whole book is.
A sprint timer counting down, showing sprint one of two.
Your sprint timer. Set the length, start it, and write until it sounds. When it ends the cursor is already waiting in the box for your new total.
A milestone card reading ten thousand words, ready to download and share.
Milestone celebration. Pass ten thousand words, or fifty, or the halfway mark, and the app makes you a card you can save and post. Your readers like watching your book get written. This gives them something to watch.
Total words written across every manuscript, and a bar chart of the last thirty days.

Not just a word count tracker

It's a dedicated manuscript planner made for authors by an author.

Most of us track in a spreadsheet, or a notes app, or one of the free counters. They all do the same thing: they record what already happened. The trouble is that a record of the past won't get your book finished.

What you need is the math that turns ninety thousand words and a March deadline into what you need to write today — and recalculates when the week goes sideways.

When you lose a week to a book launch or a sick child, you don't need to sit down with a calculator and a pit in your stomach. Just open the app and it's already worked out your new plan. It's that easy.

Being able to set up a project, give it a due date and a word count, then have the app calculate all my goals and averages for me, is amazing. I used to do this with spreadsheets, which are annoying when project dates change. It's easy to use, and I love the timer for sprints. Highly recommend.

If you, like me, need a little help staying on track with your daily word count and bigger project goals, Dream. Write. Pub. is for you! ❤️

It’s incredibly easy and intuitive to use, and for those of us who hate maths with a burning passion, it works out exactly how many words you need to write each day to hit your goal. I’ve used this app for close to a month, and it’s definitely kept my ass on track. It tells me when it’s time to stop doomscrolling and focus on getting the words down—or when I’m far enough ahead to justify binging one more episode of my favourite TV show! 😂

Honestly, I love it. It’s simple, motivating, and exactly the kind of accountability every author needs!

P.S. My only gripe is that it doesn’t tell me I’m a good girl when I hit my goals. 😏

I used to use a sprint tracker that you write inside, but I lost 6,000+ words there and never went back. I love that the app is just a place for planning the book, so I can stay focused on writing. Also, yes, I designed the app and I use it daily!

Stay focused

Finishing the book is the only part nobody else can do for you.

An author’s week is cover briefs, newsletter drafts, ARC readers, ads that need watching, and an editor who needs booking three months out. All of it is real work and all of it matters, but none of it matters at all if the manuscript isn't finished.

This is a tool for holding that one job so it stops taking up room in your head. You open it, you see where you stand, and you get on with running the rest of your business knowing the writing is on track.

What it won't do

Nothing in here is designed to make you feel bad.

There are no streaks to break. A day off is a day off, and nothing resets or greys out to punish you for taking a Sunday with your family.

It won't call you behind before you've started. Where you stand appears once you've written something, not while you're still making the coffee and wondering whether today will go well.

It's not somewhere to write. Your manuscript stays in Word or Scrivener or wherever it already lives. This holds the numbers and keeps out of the way of the actual work.

Your words are never held hostage. If a subscription lapses you keep everything — history, statistics, the lot, and you can still export it. You simply stop adding new days until you come back.

A day-by-day history showing goals met, a goal not met, and rest days marked as nothing due.
Here is what a real week looks like. A day you hit your goal, a day you didn't, and a rest day that simply says nothing due. Every day can be corrected later, because you'll forget to log one and that shouldn't derail your whole plan.
